JU students withdraw hunger strike

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: The students of the Jahangirnagar University, who were on a hunger strike unto death, have ended the strike on Monday evening (July 17) with administration’s assurance to withdraw a case filed against 54 students.

JU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Amir Hussain on behalf of the JU administration gave the assurance and broke the strike by providing water to the fasting students around 7:30pm Monday.

Earlier on July 15, two students started their fast unto death where six others joined the fasting gradually. 

Earlier on May 27, some students of the varsity carried out vandalism at the residence of the VC, being enraged over police attack in a demonstration protesting deaths of two students in a road accident near the campus.

Later, JU authority filed a case against 54 students over the incident.
