‘Conduct rules gazette for judges by next week’

DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq said that the gazette on rules determining the discipline and code of conduct for lower court judges will be finalized by next week.

The minister made the statement to reporters on Sunday (July 16).

Anisul Huq said, “The draft of gazette will be ready on Thursday (July 19) and will be presented to the President next week.”

Earlier on July 2, Law Minister hoped to publish the gazette by July 15 after the apex court gave last two weeks time for the gazette publication in response to a time plea filed by the government.

Anisul Huq then said, “the matter needs meticulous care as the conduct rules will affect judges. We are carefully filtering the rules to avoid questionable contents. Hopefully, it will be ready by July 15.”

On December 12 last year, the court had asked the authorities concerned to issue the gazette by January 15. The deadline was extended several times since then.
