More app-based taxi, bike services to hit Dhaka streets

DHAKA: Like Uber and Pathao, more app-based local and international taxi and bike services will be launched in Dhaka to facilitate commuters.

‘Ola’ of India, ‘Karim’ of UAE and GO2 Technologies Limited, an application based transportation Network Company, are taking preparation to come in the streets in Bangladesh soon. They have already started reviewing the market, sources said.

However, the draft policy of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) does not allow more app-based taxi service together. This option of the BRTA is contradictory to the global conception, said the concerned persons.

However, the road transport and bridges ministry will accept the public opinions on the draft policy till Thursday (July 13). Then the ministry will invited the persons concerned in a meeting. The policy will be approved finally at the inter-ministerial meeting.

An official of ‘Karim’ said that they are analyzing the market before going to the streets.

On the other hand, ‘Ola’ wants to start operating in the market soon. ‘Grabe’ of Thailand told Banglanews that they also expected to launch their operation here soon.

GO2 Technologies Limited will provide service to the commuters with bike, private CNG-run auto rickshaw and some other transportation services.

Managing director of the company Ahmed Imtiaz said that currently registration of drivers and partners is going on and later on this month, they will launch the application for commuters.

GO2 will launch their first ever service from Dhaka, he added.
