MAGURA: A district court has awarded death sentence to man for killing his pregnant wife and minor daughter in Magura.

Court of Magura district and sessions judge Sheikh Mafizur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday (July 12).

The death row convict is Amirul Islam, 38, son of one Sobhan Molla of Choubaria village in Mohammodpur upazila.

Public prosecutor Advocate Kamal Hossain told Banglanews that, on June 5 in 2011, the convict killed his pregnant wife, Kabita Khatun, by beating her with a piece of brick and later strangled her 5-year-old daughter, Jamila Khatun, to death as she witnessed the crime. Amirul then buried the bodies in a jute field.

On the next day, Kabita’s father Rakib Molla filed a murder case with the sadar police station accusing Amirul.

On June 9, police detained Amirul and he confessed the crime in court under Section 164.
