DHAKA: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Bangladesh on Monday (June 26) with due solemnity and religious fervour.

Country’s main Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat (congregation) was held at National Eidgah ground at High Court area of the capital city at 8:30am.

Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Pesh imam Mohammad Mizanur Rahman administrated the prayers.

President Abdul Hamid, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon, members of the Cabinet, Supreme Court and High Court judges, high government officials, political leaders, diplomats and people of other professions took part in the prayers.

Besides, marking the Eid, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier greeted countrymen as well as the Muslims across the world.

In separate messages, the president and the premier prayed for unobstructed peace, progress and prosperity of the country and the Muslim Ummah.

The government has chalked out elaborate programs to celebrate the holy Eid.

The national flag is being hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments.

Important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city will be decorated with miniature national flags and flags inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ in the evening.

Besides, designated government offices and other establishments would be illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels are airing special programs while newspapers have published supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Moreover, improved diets are being served in hospitals, jails and orphanages.

However, the biggest Eid congregation of the country was held on Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj district.

Divisional, district and upazila administrations and local government bodies have taken preparations in their respective areas to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr.

Law enforcers have taken tight security measures across the country for the Eid festival.
