Moon sighted: Eid-ul-Fitr in Bangladesh Monday

DHAKA: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslim community, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Monday (June 26) as the moon of Shawal month was sighted this evening.

The moon of Shawal has been sighted in the sky of Chittagong first. Later, it has been sighted in the sky of Dhaka.

The National Moon Sighting Committee will make the announcement in this regard following a meeting held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city on Sunday evening (June 25).

Religious affairs minister and president of the National Moon Sighting Committee Principal Matiur Rahman chaired the meeting.

Meanwhile, a large number of people have already left Dhaka for their homes outside the capital to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.

On the hand, all preparations for holding the Eid Jamaats (congregations) have already been completed in the capital city and elsewhere in the country.

As many as 410 Eid Jamaats will be held in the capital city under the supervision of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The main Eid Jamaat will be held at the National Eidgah on the Supreme Court premises at 8:30 am, if weather permits.

A total of 230 places, including the National Eidgah and the playground of Dhaka University, have been prepared for the Eid congregation in the DSCC, while 180 places are ready for Eid congregations in the DNCC.

The Eid Jamaats will be arranged at every ward of the DSCC and the DNCC.

However, the country's largest Eid congregation will be held in Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj like previous years.
