JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: Hundreds of Jahangirnagar University students have blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway after two of their fellow students died in a road accident on early Friday (May 26).

Students have blocked vehicles at Dairy Gate resulting huge traffic congestion on the busy highway.

Earlier around 5:00 am Friday, two students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) were killed in a road accident as a bus hit them at CMB area of Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

The deceased were identified as Nazmul Hasan Rana, hailed from Nurpur village under Pabna sadar upazila, student of 43rd batch of Department of Marketing, and Arafat, student of Microbiology Department.

Locals said that Nazmul and Arafat were on the route to campus by an auto-rickshaw from Savar’s Kalma area. A bus hit the rickshaw when it was in Dhaka-Aricha Highway close to Mir Mossarraf Hall of the varsity, leaving the duo critically injured.

They were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital where on-duty physician declared Nazmul dead. Arafat died later around 12:00pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

However, Savar Model police station Kamruzzaman said that a case was being lodged over the incident.
