The 118th birth anniversary of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed Thursday (May 25) in a befitting manner across the country.
To celebrate the day, the government as well as different socio-cultural and political organizations has chalked out elaborate programs.
The central program of Nazrul's birth anniversary will be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Dhaka at 3:30pm.
President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to attend the inaugural session as chief guest.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor is scheduled to chair the inaugural ceremony of the program.
Ministry of cultural affairs and its associate bodies will place floral wreaths at the grave of the poet located beside the Dhaka University (DU) Central mosque.
Besides, Dhaka University will organize a daylong program commemorating the 118th birth anniversary of the National Poet.
Nazrul Institute and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy are also scheduled to hold discussions and cultural programs marking the day.
The birth anniversary of the rebel poet will also be celebrated at Trishal in Mymensingh and some other parts of the country with due respect.
Born on May 25, 1899, at Churulia village in Burdwan district of West Bengal in India, Nazrul inspired people to fight against injustice and repression through his literary works.
