Ex-Ekushey TV chairman Salam granted bail

DHAKA:  The High Court on Wednesday (May 24) granted bail to Abdus Salam, former chairman of private television channel Ekushey TV (ETV), in a money laundering case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

An HC bench comprised of Justice M Enayetur Rahman and Justice Shahidul Islam passed the order after hearing upon the rule issued in the case. 

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for ACC at the court.

On April 13 in 2015, Anti-corruption commission (ACC) Deputy Director Samsul Alam as a plaintiff filed the case with Tejgaon police station accusing Salam and two others for purchasing, preserving and laundering foreign currencies jointly.

The other two accused are—Aftabul Islam, elder brother of Salam, and Fazlur Rahman Shikder, former senior manager of ETV.

It was alleged that Abdus Salam purchaed € 30,000 by Tk 2,670,000 and later laundered those during his office at the TV station.

Detective branches of police arrested Salam on January 6 in 2015.

Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed in Pornography Act; in which he has been serving jail time.
