N’ganj teacher Shyamal Kanti faces arrest warrant

NARAYANGANJ: A district court has issued an arrest warrant against Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the head teacher of Piyar Sattar Latif High School at Narayanganj Bandar upazila, in a case filed over taking bribe from another teacher.

Narayanganj Additional Chief judicial Magistrate Ashok Kumar Dutta issued the order on Wednesday (May 24).

Narayanganj court police inspector Sohel Alam told Banglanews that the case against Shyamal kanti was filed for his alleged connection in demanding Tk 1.35 lakh bribe from an English teacher at the school, Morsheda Begum, in persuasion of enrolling her name as government’s monthly pay order (MPO) list.

On April 17, the investigation officer of the case and also Bandar police station in-charge (Investigation) Harun-ur-Rashid submitted the charge sheet in court accusing Shaymal Kanti.

Prosecutor's lawyer SM Siqqikur Rahman said, in the case (112/16), teacher Morsheda Begum claimed that Shaymal Kanti took bribe money from her in two terms but didn’t provide any assistance to enroll her name in MPO teacher list.

Earlier on July 14 last year, three people filed three separate cases against shyamal Kanti on charges of hurting religious feelings, beating up a student and taking bribe. The court dismissed the first two cases after holding hearing on that day and ordered Bandar police to submit report on bribery case.
