DB men went for extortion: Probe Report

DHAKA: An investigation report said the members of detective branch (DB) of police went to ‘New Wave’ club at Kafrul in Dhaka for extortion.

Investigation committee member Masud Ahmad, deputy commissioner, Mirpur division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Friday (April 28).

He further said that the committee has submitted the report to DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia recommending punishment of 12 member of DB including the 11 members who were caught by military police.

Masud Ahmad also said the committee has found evidences about the involvement of DB assistant commissioner Ruhul Amin who led the extortion.

Three types of punitive actions were recommended in the report, he added.

On April 18, military police detained 11 DB members, who were fleeing after extortion at New Wave club in Ibrahimpur area of Kafrul Thana in the capital.

Later, DMP constituted a three-member probe committee, headed by DB additional commissioner Jamil Ahmed, to investigate the matter.

Two other members of the committee were DMP joint commissioner (crime) Krishnapada Roy and Mirpur Division DC Masud Ahmad.
