DHAKA: In the latest bid to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka city, another flyover will be constructed from Fakirerpool to Keraniganj’s Chunkutia, apart from introducing some 4,000 modern buses.

On the other hand, some 300 cops will be provided for the two city corporations of Dhaka and the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) for footpath management.

The decision was taken at the executive committee’s meeting of the Dhaka Transport Co-ordination Authority (DTCA) held at the Nagar Bhaban in the city on Sunday (April 23).

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed the decision at a press briefing after the meeting.

Presided over by Obaidul Quader, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Haq, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon, secretaries of the concerned ministries and divisions, mayors and administrators of neighboring districts of Dhaka joined the meeting.

Obaidul Quader said that they in the meeting also discussed several other proposed projects, including construction of an express way form Gabtoli to Nabinagar and metro rail from in front of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kamlapur.

The minister said that an inter-ministerial meeting will be called soon to take 300 police members for the two city corporations and the Rajuk. The cops will work for keeping the city’s footpath free from illegal encroachment. The home ministry will provide the police.
