DHAKA: Bangladesh will apply and place the facts before the United Nations within a month with the request that March 25 will be declared as ‘World Genocide Day’.

Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque said this to the journalists at Secretariat on Thursday (March 23).

The minister said that Bangladesh is continuing diplomatic efforts so that the United Nations adopts the day as ‘World Genocide Day’.

The cabinet in its March 20 meeting approved the proposal to observe March 25 as Genocide Day in remembrance of the brutality carried out by the Pakistani Army in the “Black Night” of March 25 in 1971.

Earlier on March 11, the Parliament adopted a resolution declaring March 25 as Genocide Day.
