DHAKA: The garments workers blocked a major thoroughfare at Rampura area in the city for second consecutive day on Thursday (March 23) protesting closure of their apparel unit without prior notice and demanding dues.
The workers of the Lyrics Garments Industries began sit-in program in the street on Wednesday (March 22) morning. However, their protest turned into widespread figure on Thursday morning.
RMG worker Monira said, “We found the garments factory is shut when we went there to join work. The owner shut the factory without any notice and by not paying wages of three months. For this, we are staging demonstration.”
The traffic movement at Rampura area and surrounding areas was severely affected for the road blockade. A long tailback was seen in the Rampura-Badda road, causing immense sufferings for the commuters.
