COMILLA: A district Court on Wednesday (March 22) sentenced death penalty to three people for killing an expatriate businessman Shamsul Huda in 2013 in Comilla.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions court-4 Nur Nahar Begum pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon (March 22).

The death row convicts are-- Shipon Mia alias Ripon, 22, son of late Tota Mia from Manikpur village of Chauddagram upazila, Shahabuddin, 23, son of Siddiqur Rahman from Atgram village and Taslima alias Salma, 26, wife of Khokan Mia from Chanpur Bou Bazar area.

Of the convicts, Shipon Mia is absconding.

According to the case statement, in 2013, the convicts demanded Tk 2.5 lakh over phone as ransom from expatriate Shamsul Huda and Shamsul’s brother filed a general diary with Kotwali model thana following the incident.

Later on December 12 in 2013, the convicts abducted Shamsul Huda from his Chowddagram residence and killed him as the family members failed to give the money.
