Bangladeshi businessman killed in NY

DHAKA: A Bangladeshi businessman was allegedly stabbed to death by his landlord at Bronx in New York of USA Wednesday evening (February 22) local time.

The deceased was identified as Zakir Khan, 44, a real estate broker in NY, hailed from Fenchuganj in Sylhet. He immigrated to USA in 1992.

Bangladeshi expatriate journalist in NY, Akbar Haider Kiran and Nihar Siddiqui confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Quoting NY police department (NYPD), several NY-based Bengali newspapers reported that the landlord stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically.

Later, the NYPD officials received an emergency call and went to a house in the Bronx area. They rushed injured Zakir to Jacobi Medical Center where on-duty physician declared him dead on arrival, Akbar Haider Kiran and Nihar Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, NYPD officials detained the 51-year-old landlord.
