DHAKA: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the new generation to know the real history of the Language Movement.

“We must know the true history of the Language Movement. Those who do not know the history cannot be true Bangalee.”

The premier made the remark at a discussion program on International Mother Language day at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in Dhaka on Wednesday (February 22).

At the outset of her speech, Sheikh Hasina, in a revered tone, recalled the heroic and brave souls of the country and the sacrifices they made for the Language.

She also remembered the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Who led the nation to victory.

Awami League led the nation in every crisis, including from the Language Movement to the War of Liberation, she added.

The premier also slammed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and all its senior leaders for stepping onto the main platform of the Central Shaheed Minar to pay respect to language martyrs on February 21.

“There is no place for independent Bangladesh in their mind as it remains in Pakistan, 1200 miles away from Bangladesh. That’s why they get up onto the altar of Shaheed Minar. They also don’t know where the wreaths are placed,” she added.

Deputy Leader of the House and Senior AL Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, AL Advisory Council Members Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former Bangla Academy director general Dr Syed Anwar Hossain, drama personality Ramendu Mazumdar and ex-principal of Badrunnesa Girls’ College Merina Jahan also were present here.

Noted poet Nirmalendu Goon recited a poem at the program.

AL publicity and publication secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud and deputy publicity secretary Aminul Islam Amin conducted the function.
