Dhaka hostage rescue operation begins

DHAKA: Law enforces launched an operation early Saturday to rescue hostages being held at gunpoint by a group of terrorists, police said.

The rescue operation started at 4am after eight hours of hostage. RAB members are at the forefront of the operation.

Commanding officer asked people to come out of the restaurant raising hands.

A bullet-hit man named Shawan was brought out from the scene immediately after the operation begins.

In the meantime, sounds of at least five-grenade explosions were heard. Besides, three ambulances were kept ready at the spot.

Members of RAB, Police, SWAT, BGB and Fire Brigade are taking part in the rescue operation.

Earlier on Friday night, two police officials were killed and 10 others injured as terrorists charged grenade and opened fire on them in Gulshan diplomatic zone. 

The diseased are Banani police Officer-in-Charge Salauddin and Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police Rabiul. 

Gunmen stormed a restaurant named Holey Artisan Bakery on Road 79 in the Dhaka’s diplomatic district and taken 30 people at 8pm, Police said.
