DHAKA: Benazir Ahmed, Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said efforts are on to get a peaceful solution of the hostage situation in city’s Gulshan area.

The incident that began around 8pm on Friday night at Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant on Road 79 has claimed the life of Gulshan Thana OC Salahuddin and injured 10 others.

Police has cordoned the restaurant while the injured cops were rushed to adjacent hospitals.

RAB DG said gunmen took about 30 people hostage inside the restaurant and “we are trying to rescue them carefully.”

“We will negotiate with the terrorists if necessary to bring the situation under control,” he added.

He also urged the newsmen who reached the spot to be safe while covering the incident as it is a challenge for all of us to handle the situation.
