DHAKA: An Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Jayati Chakraborty from India and Azizur Rahman Tuhin from Bangladesh will be held at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre at city’s Gulshan at 6:30pm on June 29.
Indira Gandhi Culture Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka in association with reputed Bangladesh cultural organization “Noibedyo” is jointly organizing the programme.
Jayati Chakraborty, who had trained under stalwarts like Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty (voice training), Supriya Ghosh, Sri Sambhunath Mukherjee and Sri Sanatan Bandopadhyay (for Kheyal), Shri Subhankar Banerjee and Sri Subhas Chowdhury (for Rabindra Sangeet), Sri Jatileswar Mukherjee (for Modern Songs) and Late Biman Mukherjee (for Nazrul Geeti), commenced her musical career at the young age of 5 years.
She subsequently released her first music album comprising of Modern Bangla Songs –“Doorer Pari” in 2002 and immediately followed it up with another album release with Bangla band –“Eklabya”—in the same year.
Other music albums released by her subsequently include –“E Hridoy”, “Megher Badi”, Ei to Ami”, “Tomaro Ashime”, “Akasher Nir”, “Ke Jabi”, “Smaran”, “Anandasandhya” etc.
Chakraborty is a lead singer for several tele-serials and telefilms in India and has lent her voice as a play back singer for several Bengali movies having worked under renowned music directors like Chiradip Dasgupta, Joy Sarkar, Prabuddha Banerjee, Srikanto Acharya, Debashish Ganguli, Kalyan Sen Barat, Rupankar, Samir Chattopadhyay, Tapan Sinha, Pintu Bhattacharya, Tony Bose, Soumya Bose, Kanchan Banerjee, Anindya and Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty etc.
Chakraborty has also participated as a judge in prestigious music competitions like the Dover Lane Music Conference, Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa etc.
Jayati Chakraborty has extensively toured abroad for performances in London as part of the programme–“Biletey Rabipronam 2010”, in USA as part of the North American Bengali Conference in 2009 and 2011 as also to Canada and Bangladesh. She is also the proud recipient of several national and state awards for music in India.
Azizur Rahman Tuhin, currently a teacher and Executive Body member of the noted Bangladeshi cultural organization, Shurer Dhara and a faculty member of the Department of Music of the University of Dhaka, is an ‘A’ Grade artist of the Bangladesh Television and a Special Grade artist of Bangladesh Betar.
He is a regular performer in popular satellite channels of Bangladesh and India.
Tuhin successfully completed his Masters of Music and Bachelor’s of Music in Rabindra Sangeet from the prestigious Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan in 1998 and 1996 respectively and subsequently worked as the Head of the Dept. of Rabindra Sangeet at the Chhayanaut Sangeet Vidyayatan in Dhaka.
He has released several music albums on Rabindra Sangeet like “Gane Tomar Porosh Khani” (2002), “Akash Ami Bhorbo Gane” (2007), “Jagoroner Gan” (2009), “Fera” (2010), “Troyee” (2010) etc. Tuhin’s latest music album, “Shunibo Praner Srobone” was released by Laser Vision in October 2011.
