4 accused sent to jail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court Monday sent four accused to jail rejecting their bail pleas in a case filed for killing of Jahangirnagar University student Jubayer.

Earlier in the day, the four accused surrendered before the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and sought bail.

Judge of the court Wasim Sheikh passed the order rejecting the bail plea.

The accused are Nazmul Hossain Plaban, Mahmudul Hasan Masud, Kamruzzaman Sohagh and Majharul Islam.

In the hearing, lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi stood for the accused.  

On January 9, Jubayer, a 37th batch student of English Department of the university, succumbed to his injuries in the city’s United Hospital after some unidentified miscreants chopped him.

On January 30, the university authorities expelled its seven students and suspended other six students from the varsity for their involvement in killing Jubayer Ahmed.

The expelled students are Ashiqul Islam (Zoology), Rashedul Islam Razu (philosophy) and Khan Mohammad Rois (Zoology).
