CHITTAGONG: Opposition leader Khaleda Zia, also BNP Chairperson, alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is liable for failing to build the long cherished Padma Bridge.
“The incumbent government pledged to build the bridge but prime minister and her family members are involved in corruption for what World Bank cancelled its funding,” she said.
The former prime minister came up with the allegation while addressing a relief distribution programme among disaster affected people in Chandgaon area of the port city Saturday.
She said, “World Bank and Canada are saying that there is corruption in Padma Bridge but the government is rejecting the allegation.”
The World Bank asked the government to sack the ministers involved in this scam but in contrast the prime minister only changed their ministry and for this reason the WB cancelled its funding, she added.
She also claimed that the government would never be able to build Padma Bridge in this tenure.
Later, the opposition leader said, “We will build two Padma Bridges and we will face no funding problem as we work transparently.”
Earlier, Khaleda Zia alleged that the incumbent government failed to stand beside the distressed humanity.
The Awami League government is busy in looting instead of standing beside the country’s vulnerable people, she added.
The opposition leader again said, “This government is not working for the poor rather laundering assets of the country to abroad.”
She also said that BNP would be always beside the countrymen.
