DHAKA: A two-day information technology (IT) festival titled ‘DUITS Samsung Campus IT Fest 2012’ began at University of Dhaka Wednesday.
Dhaka University Information Technology Society (DUITS) is organizing the festival.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the festival as the chief guest while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the special guest.
Addressing the inaugural function, Nahid said technology and wisdom are the best weapons of the modern age.
He added: “The incumbent government has been working to bring about a revolutionary change in the country’s education system to develop a technology and knowledge-based new generation for building a ‘Digital Bangladesh’.”
The minister called upon the students to be encouraged in morality and patriotism to serve the country.
Professor Arefin said technology should be used for the welfare of the people.
He also said, “Nowadays many people are misusing technology and harassing people, especially women who are the worst sufferers of it and we should not misuse technology.”
Chairperson of Television and Film Studies Department Dr Abu Jafar M Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Managing director of Samsung Electronics Bangladesh CS Moon and DUITS president Abdullah Al Imran and General Secretary Arif Dewan.
Over 12 hundred teachers and students from 30 universities are taking part in the festival.
Project presentation, gaming, quiz competition, workshop, seminar, debate on IT, business idea competition and film exhibition were included at the festival.
