COX’s Bazar: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and other law enforcing agencies have been put on the alert in the bordering areas of Myanmar following triangle clashes among Buddhists, Muslims and police in western Myanmar.
Surveillance has beefed up in Teknaf and Ukhia borders in the district apprehending Rohingya intrusion into Bangladesh.
Teknaf’s BGB 42 battalion commander Lt. Colonel Jahid Hasan told banglanews, “BGB are aware about clashes and killing incident in Myanmar. Following the incident, patrol team has increased in bordering area and additional BGB personnel have been deployed in every BOP apprehending Rohingya intrusion.”
Besides, security measures beefed up in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and bordering areas to avert any untoward situation, the BGB commander added.
Teknaf Thana OC (investigation) Swpan Kumar Majumder told banglanews, “Police have been put on the alert in different areas of Teknaf to halt Rohingya intrusion and avert untoward incident and protect communal harmony.”
Teknaf Nayapara Rohingya camp Incharge Kamruuzaman told banglanews, “Following the Myanmar clashes, we held a meeting with Rohingya leader of the camp and asked them to refran themselves from any kind of clash-anarchy. Besides, we informed different departments of the government about the matter.”
Four people were killed on Friday night in religious clashes in western Myanmar, where police opened fire and the authorities declared a curfew to tackle the escalating unrest, officials said.

The latest victims are believed to have been killed by angry Muslims who torched Buddhist villages in Rakhine state along the Bay of Bengal.
"They were attacked with knives. A 65-year-old man was killed on the spot. The other three died in hospital as they were seriously injured. Those who were killed are Buddhists," a government official who did not want to be named said.
State television announced late Friday a night-time curfew in the unrest-hit areas, home to large numbers of Rohingya, a Muslim group described by the United Nations as one of the world`s most persecuted minorities.
Tensions have flared in Rakhine since 10 Muslims on a bus were killed by an angry Buddhist mob on Sunday.
