DHAKA: Opposition BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain Thursday said the movement can never be stopped by sending 18-party leaders to jail, it rather gains momentum.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is afraid of movement. So, she wants to stay in power by torturing opposition people by sending them to jail in false cases,” Musharraf said.
The BNP leader came up with the allegation while addressing a human chain organized by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal in front of the National Press Club in the city.
The human chain was organized demanding unconditional release of BNP leaders including Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal general secretary Saiful Alam Nirab.
He said, “Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic behavior will not be tolerated more. The countrymen led by Khaleda Zia will reply to the oppression by the government on BNP men after the holy Ramadan.”
Jubo Dal President Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said, “Countrymen have not forgotten that Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu killed freedom fighters during 1972-75.”
He urged the government to bring Inu under trial.
Among others, BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu, Abul Khayer Bhuiyan MP, Jubo Dal Dhaka city unit member secretary Advocate Abdus Salam, advisory council member Sawkat Mahmud spoke in the programme.
