Politicians serve themselves, not people: Quamrul

DHAKA: State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Advocate Quamrul Islam said politicians are engaged in serving themselves instead of countrymen.

Though the main purpose of a politician is to serve the people, but those, who have become ministers, MPs and political leaders after the post independence era, their main purpose was to serve themselves and family members, he added.

He came up with the observation while addressing a meeting held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium on Friday noon.

With SAARC Cultural Society chairman and former MP Syed Abu Hossain Babla in the chair, Association of Social Environment and Human Rights Implementation chairman Lion HM Ibrahim Bhuiyan, general secretary Journalist Sujan De, MA Razzak Khan, Lion Md Goni Mia Babul, Abu Bakkar Siddique, among others, spoke in the programme.

After the meeting new Eid dresses were distributed among more than 200 orphan children and underprivileged women.
