DHAKA : Journalists from SAARC countries agreed to put forward a nine-point recommendation to SAARC Secretariat for setting up a forum of news agencies of the region for better coordination of flow of news and information, reports BSS.
The decision was taken during a three-day South Asian regional seminar on `Cooperation among the news agencies of SAARC` in Bhutan’s Paro on Thursday morning.
The seminar recommended that the forum in collaboration with the SIC will make a dynamic web portal for the exchange of news and other information among other member states.
The forum should explore the possibility of establishing permanent SAARC or South Asia News Agency, SAARC Media Development Fund and SAARC Information Center (SIC).
Journalists from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan participated in the discussion organized by SAARC Information Center (SIC).
Among others, Director of SIC Laxmi Bilas Koirala and Senior Programme Manager of SIC Pankaj Pandey addressed the seminar with Director of SAARC Dhan Bahadur Oli in the chair.
Besides, Officials of the SAARC secretariat, journalists and representatives from information ministries of SAARC member states took part in the discussion.
