DHAKA: ‘Life of Pi’, which earned the highest number of awards in this year’s Oscar ceremony, will be screened at Dhaka’s Star Cineplex at Basundhara City Shopping Mall on Panthapath.
The film will have its Dhaka premiere Thursday evening and will be screened at 11:00am, 1:45pm, 4:30pm and 7:15pm from March 15.
At the 85th Academy Awards the movie had eleven nominations, including Best Picture, and won four including Best Director.
It was also nominated for three Golden Globe Awards which included the Best Picture – Drama and the Best Director and won the Best Original Score.
A 2012 American 3D movie ‘Life of Pi’ is based on Yann Martel’s Man Booker Prize winning novel of the same title.
This 3D live-action/computer-animated adventure drama film is directed by Ang Lee and starred by Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Gérard Depardieu, Tabu, and Adil Hussain.
Screenplay by David Magee, the storyline of the movie revolves round a 16-year Indian boy named Piscine Molitor ‘Pi’ Patel. He survives a shipwreck in which his family dies, and is stranded in the Pacific Ocean on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.
The film had its worldwide premiere as the opening film at the 50th New York Film Festival on September 28 in 2012.
‘Life of Pi’ enjoyed both critical and commercial success, earning about $600 million worldwide.
