DHAKA: The government will build some 50,000 flats on the outskirts of the capital for meeting the growing demand for accommodation of the middle and low-income group of people.
Of the apartments, 20,000 each will be built in Uttara third phase and Purbachal new town project area while the reaming 10,000 in Jhilmil project.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan made the disclosure Thursday while replying a question from treasury bench member Benzir Ahmad in the House.
The state minister also told the parliament that the authorities concerned have already taken initiatives to construct 6,600 apartments in Uttara third phase project.
An advertisement seeking application for allotment of flats has already been published. The flats will be allotted to all sections of people, he told the House.
He said the government has a plan to implement a satellite town project at Dhamrai under Dhaka district.
