Section 144 in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT : The local administration Saturday imposed section 144 at Rampal upazila to prevent an imminent clash between two groups of civil activists as they convened programmes at the same venue.

The section will be valid from 8:00am to 12:00 midnight on the day.

The National Committee on Protection of Oil and Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports convened a meeting in proposed coal-based thermal power plant area of Sapmari under Gourambha union.

On the other hand, local committee to implement the power plant also convened another meeting in the same area at the same time, administrative sources said.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Rampal upazila Nasrin Parvin told banglanews, “Apprehending disturbance in law-and-order, the local administration imposed section 144 on the venue.”

Officer-in-Charge of Rampal Thana Anwar Hossaion told banglanews that additional police forces were deployed in the area to avert untoward situation.
