8-day Intl Theatre Fest from May 27

DHAKA: An 8-day International theatre festival by International Theatre Institute (ITI), Bangladesh centre, will begin on May 27 and continue till June 3 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The programmes will be held at the academy’s National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall auditoriums in Segun Bagicha.

The ITI is set to organise the festival titled ‘Theatre in Asia: Asia in Theatre’ in association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

An international seminar and workshop also will be held during the festival.

Four foreign and 20 local groups will perform in the festival. Theatre groups from China, United Arab Emirates and India will join it.        

Everyday, the festival will begin at 7 pm.

A workshop will be held for young theatre activists on May 30 while a seminar titled ‘Theatre in Asia’ to be held on June 1.

Twenty fours plays produced in 2011 and 2012 will be staged during the festival.

A press conference will be held at VIP lounge of Dhaka Reporters Unity at about 11am on Thursday on the occasion of upcoming theatre festival.
