DHAKA: Mobile-phone operator Robi Axiata Limited awarded the winners of ‘young journalist contest winners’ at their corporate office on Thursday evening in the city.
The contest was launched in March in partnership with Independent University Bangladesh (IUB).
From judges choice the champion was from Rajshahi University Shabash Bangladesh team and from popular choice from Facebook likes was Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Being Human team.

Both of the teams received certificates from Robi and IUB and BDT 50,000 respectively, the first runner-up team from judges choice was from American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB) step up team and from popular choice from Facebook likes was once again Shabash Bangladesh team.
Both of the teams received certificates and BDT 30,000.
The second runner-up from judge’s choice was again Being Human team from (IUB) and from popular choice from Facebook likes was Tarunnayar Bijoy Kotha from Daffodil International University (DIU). Both teams won BDT 20,000 respectively and certificates.
The contest generated good participation which produced many outstanding works. The initiative has been taken to inspire students from various media and journalism schools of the country to portray their talents.
Robi Chief Financial Officer Mahtabuddin Ahmed, Chief Technical Officer AKM Morshed and Chief Strategy Officer Yoshishige Hasegawa distributed certificates and prizes to the winners.
The event was also attended by GM Shahidul Alam, Head of Media and Communication, IUB and from Robi Executive Vice President, Brand and Market Communication M Zabid Ahsan, Vice President—Communications and Media Relations, Mohiuddin Babar, Vice President Band and Market Communication Khandaker Ashraful Hoque.
Addressing the event Robi Chief Technical Officer AKM Morshed said, “Robi organized this event to encourage the future Journalists to combine their passion with their education as well as their responsibility towards the society.”
Robi-IUB Young Journalist Contest 2012 was unique in nature.
Students from media and journalisms departments of top universities participated in the contest. 6 Teams were rewarded in 2 categories: Judges Choice (Top 3) Popular Choice (Top 3). Popular Choice was based on the highest number of Facebook likes.
