DHAKA: As in the previous years, Fête de la Musique or World Music Day will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 21.
Alliance Française de Dhaka and the France embassy in Bangladesh will jointly organise a two-day celebration programme on the occasion of the day in two different venues in Dhaka.
On the first day of the programme, the organisers in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will arrange a special concert at 6:30pm on June 20at the academy’s National Theatre Hall in city’s Segun Bagicha area.
The bands named The Bridge, Benziin and Old School will perform on the day.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky and Alliance Française de Dhaka director Olivier Litvine will be present as guests at the concert.
On the second day, students of the Ecole de Musique of Alliance Française de Dhaka will present recitals of violin, piano and Western classical guitar at 4:00pm on June 21 at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka in city’s Dhanmondi area.
The recitals will be followed by music presentations by the French language students of Alliance Française de Dhaka.
They will present musical performances which will include songs in different languages.
To be mentioned, Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival that began in France in 1982.
The idea was conceived by French culture minister Jack Lang in 1981.
Since then, June 21 has been celebrated every year in more than one hundred countries as the World Music Day.
