DHAKA: Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council’s Chairman Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma said they have to establish their rights by fighting.
He came up with the assertion while addressing a meeting marking the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People at Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Thursday.
The government termed some 54 ethnic groups as indigenous before election. But, right now, the government is confused to term them whether ethnic groups or indigenous.
The leader of the hill tracts region called the indigenous youngsters to move for establishing their rights.
He also urged the government to work for the advancement of the indigenous people with democratic mindset.
Parliamentary standing committee chairman on Adivasi people Rashed Khan Menon MP, JSD President Hasanul Haque Inu, Adivasi Forum general secretary Sanjib Drang, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Ain-O-Salish Kendra executive director Sultana Kamal, Information Commission chairman Professor Sadeka Halim, among others, also spoke.
