DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah Thursday said the cabinet’s decision against Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus is very ‘unfortunate’.
He came up with the observation while addressing a human-chain organized by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Foundation in front of the National Press Club.
He demanded withdrawal of government’s illegal interference on Grameen Bank and hoped for government’s realization.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Cabinet Division sent letter to National Revenue Board (NBR) and Banking Department seeking documents regarding how much money brought by Dr Yunus from abroad under ‘Wage Earner’ while he was MD of the Grameen Bank.
In the letter, NBR chairman Nasir Uddin Ahmed was asked to submit detailed report soon about foreign income of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The cabinet did not mention any timeline for the submission.
The human chain was also addressed, among others, by BNP executive committee member Maj (retd) Mohammad Hanif, education affairs secretary Khairul Kabir Khokan, self reliance affairs secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Juba Dal president Advocate Moazzem Hossain Alal, NDP chairman Golam Mutaza and president of Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Foundation Humayun Kabir.
