Prisoner commits suicide in Rangpur

RANGPUR: A drug case defendant allegedly committed suicide in Rangpur Court prisoncell on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 35, son of Mamtaz Ali, of Khasbag area of the city.

Family members and witnesses alleged that Mosharraf was killed by police beating. Later, police took his body to the bathroom of the prison and hanged his body.

Rangpur Sadar assistant police superintendent Taharul Islam refused the claim to banglanews and said Mosharraf commited suicide.

“The real fact will be unveiled after autopsy,” said court inspector Jahid Chowdhury.
