DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith categorically said the World Bank (WB) was not issued any fresh letter regarding the Padma Bridge Project funding.
The finance minister came up with the information while replying to journalists after emerging from an inter-ministerial meeting Thursday.
He said, “We have appointed an executive director to WB head office. He is looking after the matter.”
JICA held talks with WB Wednesday in this regard. But, we are yet to get any information, he said.
Terming the former communications minister Abul Hossain as real patriot, the minister said, “His resignation may instigate WB to reconsider its decision over the issue.”
Regarding the issue of imposing surcharge, he said, “Our government has sufficient fund for starting the Padma Bridge construction work this year. So, this year we will not impose any surcharge to finance the project.”
