DHAKA: Ruling Aawmi League Advisory Council Member Suranjit Sengupta MP Thursday said it is not possible to forward the democracy without the surveillance of the opposition.
“Democracy does not mean to hold poll only but paying respect to other organizations is called democracy as well,” he said.
The senior leader of the party, also minister without portfolio, came up with the observation while addressing a meeting held at the National Press Club.
He added: “The duty of the opposition is to point out the misdeeds of the government and criticize it constructively as the opposition is the part of the government.
The ruling lawmaker said, “BNP possesses many politicians who are patriotic and follower of democracy. Hopefully, they will join in the dialogue regarding an acceptable poll for the sake of democracy.”
Calling upon the BNP leaders to comeback to the line of Muktijuddha, who believe in Muktijuddha, the veteran AL leader said, “You have to renounce the way of destructive politics as you want to practice the constitutional stream of politics.”
Rejecting the demand of caretaker government restoration, he said there is no dialogue under unconstitutional condition. “Moreover, numbers of polls were held during this government’s tenure, which were unquestionable,” he said.
The AL lawmaker also said there is no second or third power exists in the country. Only one power exists in the country, who brought the liberation.
With the president of Bangabandhu Muktijoddha League Abdul Gofur Azad in the chair, the programme was also addressed, among other, Dhaka Mahanagar AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, publicity and publications secretary Abdul Haque Sobuj and acting office secretary Shahidul Islam Milon.
