DHAKA: An Election Commissioner said that the elections of north and south Dhaka City Corporations would not be held by this year.
EC M Abu Hafiz said, “It will take some six months to reply the High Court rule and clear our stance, and everything is depending on court decision.”
He added: “We will work as per court direction and we are waiting for it, he added.”
On April 15, Lawyer of the Supreme Court Advocate Monjil Morshed filed a writ on behalf of Asaduzzaman Siddiqui, general secretary of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) seeking stay on the DCC polls.
Later, the High Court ordered for stopping the process of the DCC polls.
On April 12, the Supreme Court lawyer sent a legal notice to Chief Election Commissioner and two others to stop bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) elections.
