DHAKA: Rahul Gandhi has been elected as Congress president unopposed, after 13 years of this responsibility shouldered by his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The 47-year-old leader will take over the reins of the party on December 16.

Mulapali Ramchandran, chief of the Central Election Authority of Congress, made the announcement of Congress’s president on Monday (December 11).

Rahul Gandhi is elected president of the largest political party in the sub-continent after serving 5 years as the vice-president of the party.

Rahul Gandhi will be the fifth person from the Nehru-Gandhi family to take charge of the oldest political party.
