DHAKA: An estimated $200 million (Tk 1,600 crore) will be needed to help Rohingya refugees who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar escaping military persecution, says the United Nations.

UN said on Friday (Sep 22) that the financial aid will be necessary to take care of the massive amount of refugees over the next six months.

According to UN, around 4.22 lakh Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh. However, other non-governmental estimation suggests that the number is over 5.5 lakh.
Earlier on Sep 9, UN called international donors for $78 million (Tk7.80 crore) financial aids. Since then the number of Rohingya refugees has increased radically.

UN resident coordinator in Bangladesh Robert D. Watkins said, “$200 million is needed right now, but it is a ballpark figure based on the estimates on the information we have so far.
