Hang medical test fee list in public places: HC

DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday (July 24) directed the private clinics, hospitals and diagnostic centers to hang in public places within 15 days the lists of fees for their tests and treatments following the law.

An HC bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued a rule while passing the order, after the hearing of a related writ over public interest.

The health secretary, directorate of health department and Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council were asked to implement the instruction.

The HC order says a committee should be formed within 60 days after forming a policy as per the Medical Practice & Private Clinics & Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance 1982.

The HC also asked to know why the direction won’t be given to make the policy as per the Medical Practice & Private Clinics & Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance 1982 to oversee & control the license approval for the private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers and their services.

Besides, why direction won’t be given to set up Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in the hospitals at district sadars, also were asked in the rule.

The court, however, fixed October 7 for the next hearing regarding this.

Lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed moved for the writ petitioner and Deputy Attorney General Masud Hasan Chowdhury Parag moved for the state, at the courtroom Tuesday.

However, the government will form the committee for making a policy within 60 days, said Masud Hasan Chowdhury Parag.

Treasurer of Human Rights Lawyers & Securing Environment Society of Bangladesh Md Shah Alam filed the writ.
