Anti-narcotics crackdown: 11 more killed in 8 dists

DHAKA: At least eleven suspected drug peddlers were killed in reported shootouts with the law enforcers and among themselves as the anti-narcotics crackdown continues across the country.

The incidents happened in different times between Monday (May 28) late hours to early of Tuesday (May 29).

Banglanews correspondents from the respective districts reported the incidents.

In Dhaka, suspected drug dealer Sumon Mia alias Khuku Sumon, 32, was killed in a reported shootout with police in Dakshinkhan, around 12:30am Tuesday.

Two police members were injured in the shootout, Dakshinkhan Police Station Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mizanur Rahman. 

Yaba pills, a one-shooter gun, bullets and cocktails were recovered from the spot. 

In Kushtia, suspected drug dealers—Titel, 35, and Mokaddes, 36, were killed in a reported shootout with police in Daulatpur upazila, around 2:45am. 

A LG gun, bullets, cartridge and Phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot, said Kushtia District Detective Branch (DB) of police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbirul Islam. 

In Jashore, two suspected drug dealers were killed in a reported shootout among two groups of them, at Chachra Roypara area, around 3am.

The deceased were identified as Asar Ali, 56, and Manik, 26.    

Police recovered them injured from the spot and took to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, where the on-duty physician pronounced them dead.

Asar Ali was accused in 11 cases while Manik in 9 cases, said Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station OC KM Azmol Huda.

In Mymensingh, suspected drug dealer Mizan, 45, was killed in a reported shootout with DB police, at Paragaon Chotonpara area under Bhaluka upazila, around 1:45am.

OC (Operation) Abul Kalam Azad, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shah Alam were injured in the incident. They have been hospitalized, said DB OC Md Ashiqur Rahman. 

Heroin, cartridge, and machetes were recovered from the spot. 

Mizan was accused in 9 cases over drug peddling, arms and robbery.

In Thakurgaon, suspected drug dealer Harun, 45, was killed in a reported shootout with police, in Shitolpur area under Haripur upazila, early Tuesday.

Haripur Police Station OC Ruhul Quddus said that the deceased was accused in several cases filed over drug dealing.

Three police members including SI Mozammel, and ASI Masudur Rahman were injured in the incident.

A LG gun, a knife, a cartridge and Phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot. 

In Cumilla, two suspected drug dealers were killed in a reported shootout with police in Gunjor Beribandh area under Muradnagar upazila, around 12:30am.

The deceased were identified as Liton alias Kana Liton, 36, and Barten Mia, 34. 

Liton was accused in 7 cases and Baten in 8 cases, said police.

In Satkhira, one Anisur Rahman, known as the ‘yaba king’ in the area, was killed in a shootout among the drug peddlers, in Kolaroa upazila around 2am.  

A one-shooter gun, bullets and yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

Anisur was accused in 10 cases, said Kolaroa Police Station OC Biplob Kumar Nath.

In Barguna, suspected drug dealer Firoz was killed in a reported shootout in Kumrakhali village under Betagi, at early Tuesday.

A one-shooter gun, bullets and yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

Firoz was accused in 9 cases filed over drug dealing, said Betagi Police Station OC Mamunur Rashid.
