CHITTAGONG: Miscreants have caused widespread panic in the Bismillah drum factory located in the opposite side of Nahar Building in Majhirghat area of Chittagong city. They have vandalized the office and officers’ quarters looting furniture, other goods and cash from 11:00pm to 1:00pm on Monday (May 14). A total of Tk 2,30,000 has been allegedly looted by the miscreants.
Victim Mr. Riyadh, manager of Bislimah Drum Factory, said a group of 10-15 people, led by Jhantu, Mintu and Ragakata Faruque, who operate a gambling house beside the banks of Karnaphuli river near the drum factory, carried out the Monday night attack with sharp weapons.
The workers of the factory were sleeping then while miscreants broke the lock and entered the office room and started vandalism and looting. They broke into the office cashbox and took away Tk 230,000. Later they attacked staffs’ living room.
The miscreants vandalized the whole place with sharp weapons and iron rods including refrigerators, table fans and other items. Manager Riyadh was also given life threat to leave the factory in 24 hours.
While visiting the spot Tuesday afternoon, it was found that all the accessories of Bismillah drum factory office were crushed into pieces by robbers and employees' houses were also scattered in the floor. Some of the factory staffers were also present there but nobody feared to say anything. The panic in their eyes was noteworthy.
When tried to contact, Sadarghat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mr. Nezam Uddin was unavailable. However, Sub-inspector Aurangzeb, second-in-charge of the police station, said Bismillah drum factory manager Riyad came to the Police Station in the evening and filed a written complaint. Necessary measures will be taken in this regard after the discussion with the OC.
