SAVAR (DHAKA): Titas Gas conducted a drive and disconnected some 2,500 illegal links to the houses in Kolma area of Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city Thursday (December 7).

A 40-member team of Titas’ Savar unit operated the drive led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Russel, upon direction from a mobile court.

Some nine people were fined Tk50,000 each for using the unauthorized connections.

Titas’ Savar unit Manager (sales) Engineer Mohammad Siddikur Rahman said that a case will be field against the illegal line providers.  

All the illegal links in Savar will be cut, in consecutive crackdown, he added.

Some other officials of the gas distribution company also attended the drive Thursday.

Some local influential collected Tk40-50 thousands from each of the users in Kolma and adjacent areas, said the residents.

On Thursday, additional police members were deployed in the area as the locals intended to obstruct the drive.

However, gas pipes were sealed-off after unearthing in six major points in the area.
