DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) will start updating the voter list from July 25 by enlisting new voters across the country.
EC secretary Muhammad Abdullah made the disclosure to journalists on Monday (July 17).
He said EC representatives will reach door to door in each constituency until August 9 to enlist new voters and the updated voter list will be published on January 2 in 2018. The list will be finalized on January 31.
EC secretary said, “We are hoping to enlist around 35 lakh new people as voter this year. Only people who were born on January 1 in 2000 or before can be enlisted as voter. People can also be able to change their voter area during this time.”
Muhammad Abdullah also expressed Election Commission’s concern over the Rohingya voter enlisting. He said that the EC has identified 30 upazilas in hilly districts where Rohingya people have entered from Myanmar illegally and launched a special identification method for enlisting voter from there.
