DHAKA: The cabinet has approved a draft law titled 'Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 2017' with the provision of mandatory government approval.
Moreover, a punishment of two years imprisonment and a fine of Tk 500,000 is proposed if someone provides false information about the relationship with patient for amputations and organ transplants.
The draft was approved in a regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the cabinet hall of the Secretariat on Monday (July 17).
After the meeting, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division Ashraf Shamim briefed reporters.
He said, “Under this draft law, organ transplantation such as anklets, kidneys, bone marrow and intestines can be done. However, close relative category is defined by parents, brothers and sisters, husband-wife, uncle-aunt, mother-mother, cousin, brother-in-law and grandparents only.”
