DHAKA: Bangladesh Meat Traders Association and Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders Association on Friday (February 17) threaten to stop sale countrywide if their demands are not met.
Leaders of two associations came with the warning while addressing a jointly organized press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the morning.
The meat traders said they will hold two meetings with commerce minister Tofail Ahmed and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq on Sunday (February 19).
“If the government does not meet our 12-point demands, we will stop selling meat across the country.”
Meat traders said the price of meat is on the rise as they are being forced to pay Tk 20,000-30,000 as extortion per cow.
Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders Association president Sheikh Md. Abdul Bareq presided over the conference where Bangladesh Meat Traders Association president Golam Mortuza Montu, secretary general Robiul Islam and Dhaka Metropolitan Meat Traders Association general secretary Shameem Ahmed were present.
