CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A Bangladeshi student was shot to death at a gas station in Los Angeles of the USA on Tuesday (17 January).

The student was identified as Mizanur Rahman Rasel, son of one Rafiq, hailed from Raninagar village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.

Quoting expatriate Bangladeshis, victim’s father told Banglanews that Rasel went to USA around two and a half years ago.

“He was an MBA student at a university in Los Angeles. In the meantime, he also worked in a gas station in overnight shift.”

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Times reports that the shooting at the Chevron gas station occurred about 3:30 am (local time) uring an early morning robbery.

Quoting an official of LAPD, the report also said “a man entered the Chevron station and purchased an item. The man later returned to the counter, produced a handgun and demanded money.”

“The clerk was cooperating when the man shot him. The gunman then reached over the counter and grabbed the entire cash drawer and ran.”

Police sent the body to a local hospital for an autopsy.

Rafiq further said leaders of local Bangladeshi community are trying to send Rasel’s body to home through the consulate.
