JU reopens amid teachers’ demo

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: Jahangirnagar University reopened Saturday after vacation on the occasions of Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja amid teachers’ work abstention demanding removal vice chancellor Dr Anwar Hossain.

Earlier on September 28, a section of teachers under ‘General Teachers’ Forum’ started their demonstration to press home their demand.

Later, the teachers postponed their agitation from October 9 after meeting with education secretary.

But on that day a faction of Chhatra League attacked teachers. Following the incident, the teachers’ association, from a general meeting, demanded resignation of the vice chancellor by October 20.

As the vice chancellor did not resigned, teachers started work abstention on October 22 and will continue to the last of this month to press their demand.

The university students are facing immense sufferings and an uncertainty in their academic activities.
